Library Staff Members:

Library Materials Collection Selection Criteria:

  • support and enhance courses and units of classroom instruction, including state and district content standards
  • promote literacy and leisure reading
  • provide current information
  • reflect culturally rich and ethnically diverse cultures
  • represent varying opinions, beliefs, and points of view
  • engage and interest secondary age students

Circulation:

  • Current school ID card is required to borrow library materials.
  • Student assumes responsibility for lost or damaged items.
  • Books are checked out for 3 weeks, and must be returned in good condition or renewed at the end of the loan period.
  • No fines are charged for overdue library materials.
  • Students with overdue books or fines may be denied additional items until materials are returned, replaced, or paid.
  • Fines may be assessed for lost or damaged library materials.

Computers:

  • Library computer use before school, during lunch, and after school is based on availability. 
  • Current school ID card must be presented prior to each use.
  • Students log on using their personal account information.
  • Online research databases, filtered internet access, and Microsoft Office application programs are available.
  • Students must adhere to Elk Grove Unified School District’s Acceptable Use for Computers, including submission of Application for Educational Use of the Internet. Misuse or abuse of computer privileges may result in disciplinary action that could include loss of computer privileges, or on campus or home suspension.

Library Behavior Expectations:

  • The Library is a quiet, study environment. 
  • It is a place to complete homework, conduct research, prepare projects using computer applications, and read. 
  • Students who choose to participate in activities that are disruptive may be asked to leave the library immediately. 
  • All school rules apply in the Library.

Speak quietly, and use appropriate language

Cell phones and electronic devices should not be seen or heard

Observe all EGUSD technology and internet use rules and policies

Four people to a table

Politely show school ID upon request

Come prepared to study

Use only your personal computer account

Keep all chair legs on the floor at all times

Follow directions of school staff

Ask for help when needed

Clean your work area before you leave

     

Consequences:

  • Step 1: Verbal warning for inappropriate behavior which violates library or school rules.
  • Step 2: Second violations of library or school rules may result in immediate removal, loss of library privileges, and/or administrative discipline referral.
  • Step 3: Continual and/or flagrant abuse of library or school rules may be referred for administrative disciplinary action. 

Duplicate Textbooks:

  • Per Elk Grove Unified School District guidelines, a second set of textbooks may be issued if it is medically necessary to students who have a note on letterhead from a currently practicing medical doctor, chiropractor, or family nurse practitioner. 
  • The note must be signed and the signature must match the name printed on the note/prescription.
  • An Acceptance of Responsibility form must be completed by the student, and parent/guardian assuming financial responsibility.
  • The issuance of additional textbooks will begin the second week of each term to ensure that all enrolled students get their first set of books.
  • Additional textbooks may be picked up in the library during normal school operating hours. 
  • Because of the medical concern requiring the second set of textbooks, it is strongly recommended that the student be accompanied by the parent/guardian at the time of textbook pickup
  • The student will be responsible for both sets of books, including copies stored in the classroom. 
  • Parents will be billed for any lost or damaged textbooks. 
  • All books must be covered and labeled with the student’s name.
